Chapter 6: TRUST (God Vs Self)

I have found that trusting in the Self can be extremely wishy washy like a boat thrown about by the sea. Though the captain (the Self) maneuvers the vessel through the water on an intended course, the powerful sea has the capability of throwing the vessel off its intended course in any which direction or even capsizing the vessel and the captain is actually powerless against the mighty waters. When things are going good we tend to pat ourselves on the back, take the good fortune for granted, then quickly look toward the next accomplishment or acquisition and then when things take a turn for the worse we tend to plunge into despair or throw ourselves a pity party. When you begin to trust in God’s plan(s) for your life and believe less in what your own conceptual control of your life entails then the fears you once allowed, by way of anxiety, stress and worry, to creep into your life suddenly transform into enthusiastic excitement for your life and whatever God has in store for your future. Personally, when my moments of excitement begin to well up inside me, I feel as though I’m hyperventilating, my legs begin to shake and I am often literally led to tears. At this moment I also know that I am Spiritually Connected and The Life Anticipated begins to show itself unfolding right before my very eyes.
Being that I am not yet perfect I must admit, on occasion, such Spiritually Connected episodes are preceded by a moment of the aforementioned fear or doubt that made an attempt to creep in on my emotional state. An obvious trick perpetrated the opposing team! I have noticed that the more mature I become in my faith and become more confident in my assessment of God’s word, I experience episodes of doubt much less often and recover from such moments much quicker.
Should I notice anything I desire in my life not showing up or any of my needs not being met I have disciplined myself to immediately look inward, to put myself in spiritual check with regard to what I’m doing or not doing, who I’m surrounding myself with, how I’m caring for and treating myself and what type of thoughts I am processing in the moment? This basically comes down to how obedient I am being to God! This primarily shows itself in my life by how much I trust God and his plans for me and my life. There are times when even though we feel we are in control of our daily lives we must still take our hands off the wheel, so to say, and allow ourselves to trust in God, our greater source. This is where our obedience comes in and realizing that obedience is an act of trust we then must allow ourselves to let go and trust, which isn’t easy for most of us, but necessary in order to ascend to a higher level of spiritual, physical and material existence we cannot achieve by ourselves no matter what we believe!
